confession: i have so many kitchen gadgets that i forget what i have. thank you for still loving me. when i saw this greek yogurt maker featured on the king arthur blog, i said to myself, “self! why aren’t you using this to make greek yogurt instead of paying over $5 a pint for it?” i answered myself by saying, “self, i completely forgot that we bought this about 7 years ago!!” it was a lovely gollum-esque moment.
anyway, i pulled it out of the cupboard above my refrigerator, washed the moths out of it (seriously), and dumped in one pint of non-fat plain dannon yogurt (which costs just over $2 a pint).

after spending 12 hours in the fridge, the whey had drained away and a thick blanket of ultra creamy greek style yogurt was left behind. yum!! notice the big dent my rgl husband made in it for his morning fruit smoothie…

wait!! don’t dump that whey a-whey!! use it in place of buttermilk in your pancake, scone and muffin recipes. or add to your yeasted bread recipes in place of the water/milk. it’s packed with good for you acids and protein. the maker is a little pricey (about $22 plus shipping), but after a couple of uses, it more than pays for itself. that is if you remember that you own it…
peace – jodi.
